More than 30 people gathered in the Event Center on Friday for the signing of a 2+2 transfer agreement between Donnelly College and Emporia State University's Teachers College.
"With this articulation agreement, we advance our abilities to serve students as they fulfill their calling to become the teachers for the next millennial," said Monsignor Stuart Swetland, president of Donnelly College.
The 2+2 agreement enables a student to earn a Bachelor of Science in Education - Elementary Education degree through two years of full-time study at Donnelly College and two years of full-time study at Emporia State University.
"It is an awesome calling to work with people who are interested in becoming teachers," said Dr. Ken Weaver, dean of Emporia State University's Teachers College. "This opportunity that we have to enter in this partnership, is an opportunity that is really the best of both worlds. We have 153-year commitment to preparing teachers and we work hard at it everyday."
With 21 former Donnelly students currently attending Emporia State University, Swetland said they're in good hands.
"I'm happy to say all 21 are in good academic standing and their average GPA is 3.26 - which is higher than the average GPA at Emporia State University," Swetland said.
