Dr. Marta Caminero-Santangelo, professor of English and director of the Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies at the University of Kansas, will be speaking on campus Tuesday, Oct. 17 at 2 p.m. in the Donnelly College Event Center with a student panel and Q & A session following her presentation. Presenter: Dr. Marta Caminero-Santangelo was born to Cuban immigrant parents in Canada and grew up in a suburb of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; she earned her BA at Yale and her PhD at the University of California, Irvine. Marta's academic research involves the question of how literature interacts with the "real world." She has published three books: The Madwoman Can't Speak: Or Why Insanity is Not Subversive (Cornell UP 1998); On Latinidad: Latino Literature and the Construction of Ethnicity (University Press of Florida, 2007); and Documenting the Undocumented: Latina/o Narrative and Social Justice in the Era of Operation Gatekeeper (University Press of Florida, 2016).
